Colourful Rain

watercolour

watercolour

I just finished painting the drawing today. Inspired by Chihiro Iwasaki. Enjoy!

The Rain

Pitter-patter, raindrops,
Falling from the sky;
Here is my umbrella
To keep me safe and dry!
When the rain is over,
And the sun begins to glow,
Little flowers start to bud,
And grow and grow and grow!

Creature 2 – Illustration Friday

Hi everyone.
Here’s a coloured version of the drawing I did a while ago. Since the drawing seem to fall under this week’s topic, ‘creature’ at Illustration Friday, I’ve decided to give it a go in painting them! It took longer than I had expected to colour them but I’m quite pleased with the outcome.
I hope you enjoy 🙂

From Tokyo with Love

Please let me introduce you to my new frog character…he doesn’t have a name yet but he’s an easy-going, the most friendly and happy frog you’ll ever meet. He loves travelling and really enjoys mingling with the locals. His destination for this trip was to Japan. On this trip, he met a tree frog who knew a spot for the best view of Tokyo. So here they are, enjoying the magnificent scenery with sake and sushi. His singing continues to carry across the night bay.
Oh, I so wish I was there to listen!

Origami Children

Media: Origami

Media: Origami

Sharing my origami work from 2011.

I personally believe that young children are the precious gift from God who ‘sees’ people. Whatever the colour, race, countries or religion you are/is/from/have….the young children will not judge anyone merely on their appearances. Now I can say this with confidence as I have experienced their so-called special skills through my previous work. They observe you closely, hear you speak, listen to you attentively, and really tries to see the person underneath your skin or status to understand if you are an honest and reliable person. The children have the power in seeing the beauty (vice versa) in people. They do it so naturally. That’s what made me so fascinated about the children.
I cannnot stop but wonder when I had lost such special skills…..was it along the way to adulthood?

I probably won’t be able to go back to the point where I knew nothing and start innocent again, but I can make an effort in believing people and eliminate prejudice and stereo-typical mind-set.
Wishing that the world will be filled with children from various backgrounds holding hands and helping one another. We need them greatly especially in the world today. That’s one of the biggest dreams I hold through creative work.

Nutella

image_25

I wanted to draw something that you see common in Australia which may not be familar to many people back home. So I had a chocie bewteen drawing Vegemite or Nutella.
I was introduced to Vegemite when I was 16 years old, but I still remember the shock after tasting the first bite of my toast. I was expecting sweet taste assuming from the black colour (had expected something like chocolate) but it was incredibly salty! It turned out that Vegemite was a fermented yeast extract and was a savoury spread. I wished somebody had warned me earlier that I wasn’t supposed to spread it on the toast thickly such as peanuts butter. As it has a very intense taste, just a thin scraping will do on a piece of bread or crackers…which I learnt afterwards.

After finishing up my very salty piece, I felt like eating a whole block of chocolate for a change of taste in my mouth. I reached out for another jar which was written ‘Nutella’, back then I really had no idea what it was made of. I guessed it had nuts inside from the naming but nope, never would have guessed the delightness of its taste until I tried. It was a hazelnut chocolate spread!

I had Nutella this morning and suddenly the memory of my very first ‘two opposite tastes’ flashed back. So here’s a painting of my saviour Nutella!
